Great Ideas For Groomsmen Gifts
Your wedding is days away and you still haven’t purchased your groomsmen’s gifts. You’ve been putting it off because you haven’t had any ideas as to what to get them. It’s true that the groomsmen can be a difficult bunch when it comes to purchasing gifts for them, but they shouldn’t be. There are so many resources out there via the Internet that can help you select personal and memorable gifts for your groomsmen. Here are a few select ideas to help get your creative juices flowing.
1.) Personalized beer steins, mug, or flasks. There are so many great styles and brands out there, so you should have no problem choosing the one that is right for your guys.
2.) If your guys are into poker what about a poker set. You can get some that are personalized and some that have the actual weighted poker chips.
3.) What about a round of golf on you? Another great idea for a groomsmen’s gift is to take all your guys out for a round of golf on you! This is would also be a great time for you and your friends to hang out before your upcoming nuptials.
4.) If your friend’s are a group of ultimate outdoors men, how about an engraved pocketknife or a flint and steel fire starter kit. These are both handy and unique gifts.
5.) If your groomsmen are into cigars, what about a kit that includes a lighter, cigar cutter, and personally selected cigars.
6.) Concert tickets or sporting event tickets are also a great idea, especially if it’s a band that you all like or if a sporting event where your two favorite rival teams are playing against each other. Why not purchase the tickets and use them as the opener to your bachelor party?
These are all great ideas and are definitely a good place to start when considering the gifts for your groomsmen. Be sure to think about your group of guys and take their interests into consideration. If you have to get everyone something different, then so be it! At least they will know you put some thought into it. You should also not leave ordering personalized gifts until the last minute. For one you will pay more and more in shipping costs the longer you wait, and you also run the risk of not getting your gifts in time. If you are purchasing tickets to an event, the longer you wait you risk getting bad seats or no seats at all. So, be sure to put lots of thought into your gifts and to allow yourself plenty of time to get them.

Questions & Answers about Flint Fire Steel
Where can I buy a decently sized piece of flint?
I go camping a lot and prefer to start my fires with flint and steel because matches make it too easy. I have purchased those things with the flint and magnesium before, but I find that the flint only lasts for about 10 fires, leaving me with a big hunk of magnesium and no flint. I'm looking for a piece of flint that will last me at least 30 fires.
Also, please tell me if I might be able to find a piece somewhere (I live in CT).

Fire by Friction Bow Drill?
I would like to start a fire using the bow drill method. But I don't know what wood to use some say hardwood and some say softwood. Please can you tell my what wood to use and more specifically the tree that the wood comes from (willow, birch etc). I need to be able to find these around where I live in Wales. If this is not possible please could you tell me where I can buy a cheap kit from, £5 maximum.
Thanks Tom,
P.S I can already start fires with mirrors, magnifying glasses, flint and steel and all that so all i need is the type of wood not instructions on how to do this, unless you have a really good tip.
Thanks Again,
Tom
It's best with a hardwood for the drill and soft fleshy well dried wood for the anvil.
The idea is to get the sides of the hole hot enough to start smoking and the rubbing of the drill flakes it off so it falls under the hole onto a board., which can be a bit of cardboard, thin ply,etc but not metal which conducts heat away.
When you've got some smoke coming from it give it a real good extra-effort drilling for a few seconds, lift the board, put a small amount of very dry tinder onto the black ash and blow gently.. Put it in a big bunch of tinder and blow and in a few seconds you can get it really burning well and put it into the middle of the wood on your campfire, which is built to have a space in the side to put it in.
With fleshy wood it's like having some tinder built in as the bits come adrift and fall through the hole.. Hardwood won't do that, so it's good for the drill but not for the bit with a hole in.
Here's a good video of it and loads on the list to the right.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWP5qyDmwhA . . . .
If you're just getting the walls hot the wood can conduct heat away but if the bits fall through they aren't in close contact with the body of the wood. They're in a heated and insulated chamber under the hole so they retain their heat better.
As more carbonised wood powder falls through it adds to the heat store far better than if you were trying to heat the whole block of wood, so it works much faster that way.
Having a wide slot from the hole to the edge of the wood lets air in to keep the ash smouldering. Without it, there will soon be no oxygen under there.
Where a lot of people go wrong is not having the hole right through the anvil.
Punishment time then. Making a hard job of it.
Have fun.
